No car, it is fair to say has been used as the
subject for more art work than the Volkswagen Beetle. The latest example leaped out at us at me the other day from a poster in front of
El Museo de Barrio on
It is to be
part of a show, originated by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in
conjunction with the Chicano Studies Research Center (CSRC) at the University
of California, Los Angeles, and opening here in the spring, called “Phantom
Sightings: Art after the Chicano Movement.” The show was also on view last summer at Phoenix Art Museum Its curators escribe it as the “first
comprehensive consideration of the legacy of Chicano art in two decades and the
largest exhibition of cutting-edge Chicano art ever presented.”
Called
Vocho, the life-sized Beetle was hand sewn by Margarita Cabrera, who lives in
She has
said that she was inspired to create the car after hearing production would
come to an end. (RFE)
“There
was an announcement in the media about the discontinuation of the Volkswagen
Beatle in 2003. We had three of them in my family and I felt something like a
real loss, like something really shook me and I started realizing that it
really was a national icon. It really economized transportation for a lot of
people including my family. All of a sudden it came into the market and
everyone had to have it. Taxis drove it, ambulances drove it, policemen drove
it, all the delivery people drove it. It was everywhere, and it still is a very
prominent car. The production of that machine employs so many people, so the
discontinuation was like a real death. It was a real loss of an icon. Also, it
was made in mass production like every other piece I made. I saw it as a
machine, but it also had all of this other really important information.”
I am trying to find the name of the artist who did the cover art for
the 1987 (also 1991..http://members.tripod.com/~v_m_smith/91scf.htm)
version of "Stranger in a Strange Land" by Robert A. Heinlein...for
some reason I can't find this info (but I don't own
the book). MOST IMPORTANTLY I want to know how to get a print of it,
in any form possible. THANKS!!...

I am 17 years old and for 3 consecutive summers I worked through an agency called Hanac Youth Services. My actual work place, though, was at a hospital. The Hanac agency was where I got paid from though. So how do I include them both on my resume, because I was never working AT Hanac, I worked at the hospital. This may sound confusing. If i see any confused answers, I'll try to add more.
